2013 Trek Marlin (Gary Fisher Collection)

Fishing for a great trail ride is easy with Trek's Marlin. Its super-light Gold Series aluminum frame features ride-enhancing G2 29er geometry for superior cornering, climbing and descending. Adding to those attributes is a set of steamrolling 29-inch wheels and a 100mm-travel fork that smooths the trail and steers you through the roughest terrain. Plus, component highlights include a slick-shifting Shimano/SRAM 24-speed drivetrain, a host of reliable Bontrager parts and Tektro mechanical disc brakes that give you awesome stopping power in all conditions.

Comments:

Its well worth the money. I ride local trails and mostly short commutes around the neighborhood and its good for both. I got a wtb speed v seat on it now and like it much better than the seat it came with. Found that on amazon for less than 30 dollars. Next upgrade will be bb7 brakes. The brakes are squeeling on the front and already needing adjustment again. They lack the stopping power that even my v brakes on my Trek 3500 have but one of the mechanics recommended changing the brake cables to a different type that are very similar to shifter cables. I will do that also when I get my bb7 brakes installed. This is why I cant rate it 5 stars but at the same time I cant say that it doesn't meet my expectations for the price. It is a really good value and Trek quality.

I am in my mid 30's and was looking for another form of exercise than just running. I have not been on a bike since I received my drivers license. There are friends and neighbors who bike, and they made sure to tell me to not get a bike from a big box store. After doing my research, I tested Giant, Specialized, Cannondale, and Trek. I am 6'6" and weigh approx 240lbs. The Marlin fit me much better than the others. Components were fairly similar in the other brands I tested, but the Trek's frame geometry made a huge difference and was the deciding factor in my purchase. I use it on neighborhood streets and trails, and have had no problem with it at all. Very satisfied with my purchase.

Ride Erwin Park in McKinney. Not happy at all with the noisy breaks . Purchased from my LBS and have taken it back 3X. Still noisiest bike on trail. Embarrassing on a quiet trail. Would not purchase this bike again.

    Comments:

Purchased a couple of months ago. This is a sweet ride. Forks work great, super stable yet quick turning. Scary fast on singletrack, and good manners on the roads & bike paths. Only problem is a grenaded casette, but that wasn't Trek's fault(Shimano) and it was fixed under warranty with no hassles. This is a great all around bike, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I use this bike for trail riding at the lake. The quality for the price is absolutely amazing. It handles the extreme hills and jumps as well as the casual riding. I also do a small amount of road riding. This bike has it all. Great customer support with my LBS staff also.

      Comments:

I bought my Marlin for riding in the winter time. As mountain biking is a great cold weather sport, not as much wind on the body in the woods! This bike is balanced well. It shifts great, the cable operated disc brakes work well, just a little loud at first. The geometry is just spot on! I ride with some pretty serious guys who paid thousands more for their bikes, and if I don't keep up, I don't blame the bike! Really, it is what one would expect for the $$$, entry level components that deliver adequate performance. So, if mountain biking is in your cards, this is a good place to start! I love my ride and it enables me to ride places that I didn't think I could go! Enough said.
